Nano, nano is
the “Industry perspective” feature by
the Publisher and Editor of Powder and Bulk Engineering (February ’05). “Nanotechnology.
Until recently, this word had a futuristic ring.
This technology with little more than a decade of
history was something scientists and academics researched
in labs and discussed in highly technical papers.
Today, however, this young technology based on particles
only 1 to 1,000 nanometers (or 0.001 to 1 micron)
in size is finding its way into more and more practical
applications in many industries, including dry bulk
solids processing. Nanoparticles are being used more
widely in high-performance fabrics and coatings,
metals and plastics, and many other products used
in foods, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, sporting goods,
automobiles, batteries, and hundreds of other products.”

ISA releases training catalog (Powder
and Bulk Engineering, Feb. ’05). The Instrumentation,
Systems, and Automation Society’s ISA Training
Institute and ISA Press have released their latest
catalogs detailing more than 300 continuing education
courses and 400 referenced publications and standards.
The catalogs reflect the technical interests and
information needs facing automation and control professionals,
and cover topics including batch manufacturing, security,
networks, safety, instruments, and systems integration.
