The
work of the Perlite Institute is instituted and carried
out through working groups comprised of volunteers
from the industry. The number and shape of the working
groups has changed over the years so that the Institute
may be responsive to market conditions and industry
needs. As presently structured, there is a Fines
Working Group, HER Working Group, Product Guide Working
Group, Website Working Group and the Vermiculite
Association Working Group. Overseeing the work of
the staff and working groups is an elected Board
of Directors.
The chair of the groups frequently
form task groups to conduct special investigations
to facilitate the work of the committee.
Membership
on any working group is open to any member and there
is no limit to the number of representatives a member
company may have, provided those representatives
are bone fide employees of the member company. Membership
in the International Group is limited to members
outside of the United States although all members
are free to attend meetings. Active participation
on working groups assures maximum benefit for the
members involved.
Working group meetings are always
scheduled at Mid-Year Meetings and at Annual Meetings
and special meetings may be called when necessary.
Much committee business is carried out throughout
the year by letter, FAX and telephone.
